The bailouts of banks, speculators and manufacturers served their real purposes: the multi-millionaires became billionaires and the later became multi-billionaires. According to the annual report of the business magazine Forbes there are 1,210 individuals – and in many cases family clans – with a net value of $1 billion dollars (or more). There total net worth is $4 trillion, 500 billion dollars, greater than the combined worth of 4 billion people in the world. The current concentration of wealth exceeds any previous period in history; from King Midas, the Maharajahs, and the Robber Barons to the recent Silicon Valley – Wall Street moguls of the present decade.

As Japan’s agony grinds on, more and more foreign observers are marveling at the disciplined, orderly behavior of the victims of one of the greatest natural disasters of our time. Homeless Japanese patiently stand in line for food and water. They huddle uncomplainingly in cramped shelters. They do not loot. Why is the aftermath of catastrophe in Japan so unlike that in Haiti or Chile or New Orleans?
Japan expert after Japan expert has been rolled out to give the obligatory one-word answer—culture. But that’s not an explanation. All these experts do is describe the Japanese: they are community-minded, polite, honest, stoical, they care about “face”, etc. We knew that already. Tell us why they are that way.

Haar boek People’s War is egter ‘n openbaring vir sovêr dit die terreurstryd van die ANC in besonderhede beskryf en dit uitgebreid argumenteer waarom die ANC se terreurdade voor 1994 suksesvol was.
Die kerke en veral die Wêreldraad van Kerke het ‘n sentrale rol gespeel om die ANC aan bewind te plaas toe besluit is om die Evangelie van Christus te verruil vir die sogenaamde bevrydingsteologie. Die ANC is dan ook deur hierdie raad ruim befonds. Maar dit was veel eerder die strategie om die totale Swart bevolking by die oorlog teen die Blankes te betrek, wat, tesame met die papbroekigheid en onbeholpenheid van die NP-regerings na dr Verwoerd, die uiteindelike deurslag gegee het in die revolusie van 1994.

The establishment of a no fly zone is on the drawing board of the Pentagon. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, supported by the Arab League and the Organization for African Unity (OUA) have labelled Libya as "An Unfriendly Nation". The scenario envisaged by Washington is to involve Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states in aerial attacks directed against Libya. They have also
called on Saudi Arabia to supply opposition forces with weapons. Reports confirm that NATO special forces and military
advisers to the rebellion are on the ground in Eastern Libya.

Forty years ago, author Lindsey Williams served as chaplain for the oil companies that built the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline. During the 1970s—invited to sit in on highly secret meetings—Williams inadvertently learned the long-term plans regarding the Middle East and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, or OPEC. The title of his noted book, The Energy Non-Crisis, a few years later highlighted Williams’s whistle-blowing on this matter. But what Williams has to say today may help us understand why regimes are being challenged or toppled in various countries in the growing unrest in the Middle East.
