'Troublesome' Kasrils concerns ANCYL

Johannesburg - Former intelligence minister Ronnie Kasrils worries the ANC Youth League, the organisation said on Monday.

"Ronnie Kasrils, the man we know and worked with is not the hero he claims to be in his books... but we gave him that space to write whatever he thought, but his behaviour of recent months is perturbing," spokesperson Bandile Masuku said in a statement.

Kasrils and former deputy health minister Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge have asked South Africans to take a stand against fraud and corruption by spoiling their votes.

The two are reported to be garnering support for the "Sidikiwe Vukani! Vote No" campaign, due to be launched at Wits University on Tuesday.

The aim of the campaign was to get struggle activists and others not to vote for the African National Congress, or at least spoil their vote, on 7 May.

Masuku said his organisation would consider filing a formal complaint with the ANC against Kasrils and "his like-minded friends".

"The ANC constitution provides for disciplining members who behave in a manner that brings ANC into disrepute."

Kasrils should not allow his hatred for the "current prominent crop" of leaders in the ANC to cloud his political thinking, Masuku said.

"If comrade Ronnie is still unhappy with the outcomes of the 2007 ANC conference [when President Jacob Zuma was elected ANC leader over former president Thabo Mbeki], we advise him to get psychological counselling so that he may accept the current state of the ANC and South Africa," he said.

He said Kasrils's behaviour was out of hatred for Zuma.

Masuku said : "If uncle Ronnie continues to be troublesome, we shall allow a proper characterisation of Ronnie Kasrils to be known and he will age a very bitter and angry man, who will only have himself to blame."
