DA In R28 Millions Corruption Scandal

The DA is once again caught up with opposition parties in the Western Cape over R28 million scandals that has rocked the city council.

The Independent News report revealed that the City of Cape Town mayor, Patricia de Lille tried to down play the scandal by offering an apology. All opposition parties rejected her apology and called for serious actions to be taken against DA officials.

Details of the R28 millions loss were discussed during the city's financial status debate on Monday. Opposition parties demanded an explanation as to how the DA was going to compensate for the loss of such a huge amount of money.

“How does the city manage these situations? When you have a loss, it must be reflected somewhere. The DA must be held accountable for having lost the money.” said Peter Gabriel who is the member of the ANC in the Western Cape.

A report in January revealed that the City had paid close to R30 millions for a botched soccer event despite the advise that it was not going to be a success. The opposition have accused the DA for using the event as means to redirect city funds to certain white owned companies that were appointed to provide services.

"The event was merely created in order to be an excuse for such expenditure. The fact that most service providers that were paid are white is a clear indication that this one just a corrupt dealing." said opposition council member.
