I support the constitution and uphold it. I’ve never undermined the rights of gay people. In fact, I have supported them in many of the conventions we have held with them on gay rights,” Maimane is ‘n predikant in die Liberty Church in Roodepoort.

Eight percent economic growth, a Cabinet of just 15 ministries and the arrest and conviction of government officials found guilty of corruption are just a few of the targets set by the Democratic Alliance (DA) in its newly launched Vision 2029.

The party's leader Mmusi Maimane launched the new campaign at the Jabulani Technical High School in Soweto.

He said Vision 2029 is what the DA predicts South Africa would look like after 10 years of his party in national government.

Maimane told DA Members if Parliament (MPs) and members in Soweto that South Africa must become a beacon of hope for developing countries and emerging market economies.

"As a leading country in the developing world we’ll ensure that South Africa is at least growing at eight percent."

He said under DA rule the country’s Cabinet would get reduced to just 15 ministries.

"In 2029 South Africa is on the up. Even if we have a Cabinet of only 15 ministers, then we’ll build a government that is clean, that is lean and that is efficient and citizen oriented."

The new vision has a deadline that's just one year short of the one set in the National Development Plan (NDP) and Maimane said the two have some similarities.

The party is also aiming to win power from the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng and Nelson Mandela Bay.
